Carlos Rivas

ART HISTORIAN, EDUCATOR, SCHOLAR

Dr. Carlos Rivas is an Ohio-based art historian, community educator, and scholar specializing in Central American and U.S.-Latinx art. His research examines the intersections of art, colonialism, migration, religion, and political power, with particular attention to El Salvador and the broader Central American diaspora. At The Ohio State University, he teaches courses on contemporary U.S. Latinx art, Central American migration, and modern Latin American art while mentoring students across disciplines and serving as faculty advisor to the Central American Student Organization (CASO). Originally from Los Angeles, he has also been deeply committed to activism and community organizing within Central American communities across Southern California and beyond for over a decade.
