Cristian Padilla Romero

HISTORIAN

Cristian Padilla Romero is a Honduran historian of modern Latin America with a focus on Central America and the Central American Diaspora. Since immigrating to the US as a child, he was raised in Atlanta where he calls home. Formerly undocumented and DACAmented, he is now an Assistant Professor of Atlantic World History at Mercer University’s Atlanta campus where he works to educate and mentor first-generation and working-class students. His scholarship explores how working people, Afro-descendants and Indigenous communities have challenged colonialism, racial capitalism, and U.S. imperialism while imagining alternative futures grounded in dignity and collective survival.
