Our Communities, Our Histories: Engaging Oral History Praxis Across the Salvadoran Diaspora, an online encuentro on October 6 at 7pm ET, brings together Salvadoran scholars from various interests and expertise to discuss the role of oral history in building the emerging field of Central American Studies, including the representation of El Salvador’s transnational community.

Jonathan Peraza Campos was invited by Dr. Theresa Alviar-Martin to give a workshop for teachers participating in Kennesaw State University’s Education for Sustainability and Human Rights Fellowship in June of 2026. 

We are pleased to share several new and forthcoming titles on Central America and Central Americans in the United States. Two of the titles (Mani Semilla and Avocado Dreams) are by Teach Central America advisors Anna Lapera and Ana Patricia Rodríguez.

In February 2026, Jonathan Peraza Campos, the program specialist for Teaching Central America, visited Springdale, Arkansas, to facilitate a day-long workshop on immigration and Latinx/Central American history for the Alliance for Immigrant Respect and Education (AIRE). 

Sacred Heart students and the wider community are beaming with pride because their book, Historias y dibujos: Obras de estudiantes de la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón, is now available to purchase online and eight copies are a part of the D.C. public library’s permanent collection!

On November 9, 2022 Teaching Central America, a project of Teaching for Change, hosted an educator workshop focused on Indigenous Central America.

On Saturday, March 19, 2022, Columbia University’s K-12 Outreach Program in the Institute of Latin American Studies held the second of three seminars on the topic  Beyond War, Migration & Violence: Celebrating Central America’s Knowledge and Cultural Production.
